President's Corner 02/23/2011

Dear Members!

We had very successful election on January 16th 2011. Twenty-four of our members attended the election meeting at IUPUI.

With additional proxy vote users total of 27 votes elected our new Board of Directors and Mrs. Bengü Powell - CPA, kindly accepted to audit ATA-IN’s books for this term.

After presenting ATA-IN’s budget for 2011, members agreed that our quite limited funds need to be used to introduce and promote Turkish Cultural Heritage in our state and to increase awareness to ATA-IN’s presence in Indiana. All of us agreed that our other fun get-togethers will have to be financed by the participants.

The other important discussion we have started at the meeting is the suggested changes for ATA-IN’s Bylaws, especially the reform of the number of Board of Directors and their job descriptions. We will have to continue our research on the best possible solution for our organization in the future.

In my new term as the president of ATA-IN, I will post monthly reports on my corner. I will tell you what we have done during the previous month, and what we are planning for the current month.

2011 International Fair (Sunday February 13) : I am happy to report that our participation at the 2011 International Fair organized by Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public (Zionsville) Library was a wonderful opportunity for us to reach many families from Zionsville, Carmel and surrounding areas.

We displayed Turkish books, flags, posters, and map on our booth and served fresh baked baklava, kandil simiti, pide, and sour cherry juice.

The Özsoy Family, The Yerdelen Family, Mrs. Bengü Powell, my children Connor Cihan, Ilayda and I did our best to introduce and represent our culture to many visitors of the 2011 International Fair.

Mrs. Nilgün Özsoy has been working on 2011 Children’s’ Day Celebration. Her research is indicating that our hope to organize a large celebration including local school children will have to involve a large number of volunteers, and many families willingness to participate. You will be hearing from her very soon.

We are working on an Event Calendar for 2011. Our goal is to communicate with you without bombarding you with e-mails and give you enough time to reserve the dates for our events.

Please let me know if you can suggest any restaurant for many of us can dine together. A separate room would be nice, since we like to walk around and talk Turkish when we are together, but it is not a deal breaker.

Let’s get together sometime beginning of March.

Thanks for visiting!
